Lilac Festival
10K Race Is Great Fun!

This fun 10k race during Mackinac Island’s annual Lilac Festival is an event you should not miss. It’s a great way to begin your summer for you and for your family by planning to spend the day or weekend on this amazing island during this year’s 63rd Annual Mackinac Island Lilac Festival.

The race begins at 9:30 a.m. on June 12, 2012 at Windermere Point which is where the Iroquois Hotel and the Windermere Hotel are located (west of Shepler's ferry dock). Pick up your bib and chrono check at the Mackinac Island public school which is further up the road. You can register for this 10K race online by clicking here.

There is registration in the morning of the race at the school but this might be difficult to do IF you are coming over in the morning on a ferry. You won't want to miss the starting gun!

The course is great for the avid runner, so-so runner and even for people just wanting to walk 6.2 miles at a leisurely pace alone or with a friend.

The race runs west through the quaint Mackinac Island downtown, turning left to a challenging steep hill and flattening out while passing beautiful East Bluff homes. As the race proceeds the route takes you through the wooded-area of the Island with beautiful and lush woods all around you. The last portion of the race is on the Straits of Mackinac shore road with the Mackinac Bridge being in the distance.

People are supportive of each other whether they are serious runners or just enjoying a beautiful day for a walk. The scenic route of this beautiful northern Michigan Island helps everyone enjoy this event.

Lil' Lilac Kid's Race Too!

At 11 a.m. there is a Lil Kids run that is held on the Mackinac Island School grounds which is where the adults race ends. Great cookies, yogurt, bananas and oranges are served at the end of the race.

The 10-k race is scored by gun-time. So, serious runners hoping for a good time try to be near the front of the pack in order to hear the gun. Runners and walkers can pick up their bib and ChronoTrack at the Mackinac Island public school gymnasium around 8 a.m. You can stay in the gym awaiting the starting time. There are restrooms in the school for racers to use.
