Mackinac Island, Michigan cross country skiing is a romantic vacation get-away for couples (and even families) if you love the adventure of being in a remote community (only around 500 residents) and on one of the most picturesque Islands in all of northern Michigan.
Your winter wonderland Mackinac Island vacation begins when you board the
Arnold Line ferry in St. Ignace, Michigan
that takes you across the Straits of Mackinac to the Mackinac Island docks. When you step off the ferry you will find yourself stepping back in time where the world was simpler and more relaxed. Most year round residents believe that this is the real Mackinac Island to be seen and lived without the summer crowds everywhere.
A horse drawn taxi awaits you to take you to your Mackinac Island hotel, B&B or other lodging on the Island.
Or put your skiis on and begin gliding through town to the bluffs to see some of the finest Victorian-era homes found in the mid-West. Of course, they will be boarded up but still spectacular!
Mackinac Island's cross country skiing trails...
are well kept but little used. Basically only the locals use them on a regular basis. The Mackinac State Park has many trails with some being over 6 miles. The skill level is more difficult to most difficult unless you stay in town.
