Run Mackinac Island...or Walk It

During the 41st Annual Mackinac Island
Eight Mile Run & Walk Event

To Run Mackinac Island on September 10, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. is a great chance to enjoy the tranquil beauty of the Island during the early fall. It's a great family affair with the option of running or walking the 8 mile course and even the kids can participate later in the morning for a Kids Run.

The big crowds are gone which makes the Island seem more private and intimate during your stay. You can warm up your running legs by coming to the Island a day or two beforehand to enjoy a more peaceful run or walk through the quiet woods and trails.

This is one of the oldest races on the Island and one of the most scenic in all of Michigan. There are usually over 2,000 runners and walkers registered. Click here to see the 8 mile course of this exciting Run Mackinac event.

Race Begins at Mission Point Resort

The best and easiest choice to stay is at the Mission Point Resort. There are many other wonderful Mackinac Island lodging options at this time of year. Click here to check out the many quaint & intimate Bed & Breakfasts or the best Mackinac Island Hotels. Of course, if you want the best of the best there is the Grand Hotel!

Or Catch an Early Ferry

Be sure to catch a ferry no later than 8:00 a.m. on race day either from St. Ignace or Mackinaw City...and allow time to walk up to Mission Point Resort. The Run Mackinac Race begins at 9:30 sharp! Please note on the above photo that you don't want to be walking or running through the 2,000 runners and walkers heading towards narrow Main Street to reach the Starting Line!

All ferries are offering discounts on Saturday morning through the 8 a.m. boats. During this time of year the Ferry Schedules need to be checked so you don't miss the boat!

At 11:30 a.m. there is a Great Kids Race where all the children are, of course, Number 1! The oldest age group for both the run and walk is 75 years and older with a 13-15 year old category as well.

To Register for this Race Event click here.

Insider Tip: If you enjoy this race then sign up for the Great Turtle Half Marathon & 5.7 Mile Run/Walk on Mackinac Island to be held on October 22, 2011!
