Terrain Has A Bit of Everything
With around 16 miles of hiking trails and 20 miles of cross country skiing trails working through its 10,000 acres of remote land. Be careful for it can be easy to get lost in this large parkland. There is a variety of year-round activities to enjoy while in this premier park in northern Michigan. From hiking to cross country skiing in the winter months to swimming and picnicking on the beautiful shoreline of Lake Michigan to boating and, of course, fishing in its ponds.
Campsites Are Varied Too!
Both in the Summer and Winter
The park has 250 modern campsites in the summer months either near the Lake Michigan shoreline or in the wooded areas. They include modern bathhouses, electric and sanitation stations in the campgrounds. The bathhouses are not open from November through March. The campgrounds are open from April 1 to December 1. Cabins are available too - six rustic cabins and three rustic bunkhouses. What's fantastic is winter camping is available. It's fun to reserve one of the rustic cabins near New Year's Eve. To be camping in the winter wonderland of northern Michigan is a terrific way to start a new year. None of the roads are plowed so be ready to lug all your gear to the cabins. But there is plenty of cut firewood at each cabin throughout the year!

Insider Tip: Wilderness State Park allows hunting between September 15 and March 31 in designated hunting Safety Zones. So Hunters and Hikers, as well as campers, should wear blaze orange clothing. And its wise to carry a map and compass due to the size of the park in case you get lost.
