In the summer of 1987, when I was eight, we drove around Lake Michigan, counterclockwise, starting from Chicago where we lived. I still remember a wooden shoe store in Holland, Michigan, and my two-year-old sister getting sick from too many potato chips in the car. The highlight was Mackinac Island, which is perched right at the top of the lake. No cars were allowed; everyone used bicycles or horses. We only spent one day there.
I have wanted to go back ever since and now that I am older a stay at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island would have to be one of my dream vacations.|
Thanks for letting me share this...my sister will get a big kick out of it! I wish I had a photo to share...but the fond memories are still in my head.
Marcia and Kathy's Two Cents: Thanks, Steve. When you emailed us this story it made us write a page for others to share their Mackinac Island vacations memories!
