Cloghaun Bed and Breakfast

Historic and Delightful

Cloghaun Bed and Breakfast was built in 1884 by Thomas and Bridget Donnelly who left Ireland in 1848. It has been owned by their descendants for 125 years. It is one of the finest inns on the Island with vintage antiques throughout the guest rooms and common areas. There are flowers blooming everywhere in the yard and displayed in the home to make you feel as though you are in paradise.

Click here to read the story about this brave and entrepreneurial Irish family who built the Cloghaun Bed and Breakfast and how they helped create Mackinac Island to the spectacular vacation spot it is today.

There is no air conditioning in the home although most summer nights in Northern Michigan call for a quilt rather than air conditioning. There are eleven guest rooms. All the rooms have been named after Donnelly’s children which is quite charming in itself.

The Mary and Henry guest rooms have a double bed, sink in the room and share a bathroom with each other. So, if a private bath is necessary for you make sure you are not reserving the Mary or Henry bedrooms. Although they do work well for a small family

The Breakfast Room is Cheerful and Elegant

The set-up in the dining room is wonderful for there are large and small tables in a beautiful antique filled parlor. You can either sit quietly by yourselves or mingle with other guests whichever works for you! The breakfast is not gourmet but is absolutely tasty and very filling.

The Inn has a perfect location just one block from the harbor on Market Street. For people who want a quiet evening it's perfect for you won’t hear the sounds from Main Street, and, yet you are close to shops and nice restaurants. The Kelton Library room is cozy and has a television for guests to watch. Since there is a guest room next to the library, it opens at 9 a.m. and closes at 11 p.m.

Enjoy the Gardens

They Are Grown with Love!

Marti, one of three Innkeepers, is one of the friendliest people on the whole island. If Marti is not chatting or providing helpful suggestions about what to see and do on Mackinac Island with a guest, you will likely find her tending the flowers in the Cloghaun’s garden with the same love and care!

INSIDER TIP: We suggest to reserve the Thomas room since it has a private bath and the only king-sized bed plus a cozy balcony. Enjoy!
