Fine Dining Northern Michigan style is a bit more casual than stuffy formal city dining. Casual clothes are quite okay in most restaurants. The only exception is the Grand Hotel's dining room on Mackinac Island where proper evening dress is required.
Harbor Springs has two really nice in-town restaurants to go to if you want your guy to put on a sport jacket and for you to wear a dress for a special occasion. The other restaurants are more casual but, of course, it's always okay to dress up a bit when dining anytime and anywhere!
Harbor Springs is home to the fabulous Boyne Highlands Golf & Ski Resort Community and beautiful million dollar homes on the Lake Michigan shoreline all the way from downtown Harbor Springs to Mackinaw City.

The Fish Restaurant
This little restaurant is in the rolling hill country side of Harbor Springs. It's just a short 5.5 miles north from downtown and is definitely worth the trip.
When you drive up to the restaurant of this fine dining northern Michigan restaurant you might wonder if this is the place for the exterior is quite simple. But the interior of the restaurant is like walking into the deep blue Lake Michigan sea. The seafood is super as well as the steaks. It's a terrific fun place to go for a bit of northern Michigan charm. The Fish Restaurant is located at 2983 State Road. Call 231-526-3969 to make reservations.
New York Restaurant right downtown in Harbor Springs is one of Kathy & Todd's favorites! If you are ready to feel as though you are in a downtown Chicago restaurant head to this establishment. What's terrific about it is that the owner and chef not only creates the best food of the area but also a warm atmosphere that will make you feel you are part of the family! The wine cellar has over 300 vintages of wine...so you will find a fine wine that's perfect while eating in this fabulous place. Make reservations ahead of time! It's quite pricey but well worth it. It's located on the corner of State and Bay in Harbor Springs and is just across the street from the water's edge. Call 231-526-1904.
Stafford's Pier is also right downtown in Harbor Springs but is right on the water overlooking the marina. It's a beautiful spot if you want to watch the sailboats and yachts bobbing in the water. Stafford's Pier has several different great dining options for you to choose from.
#1. Stafford's more Fine Dining Northern Michigan style option is The Pointer Room which is an upscale restaurant where you will enjoy spectacular views of the water. The menu is eclectic and what's nice is the white table cloths but also it's friendliness. You definitely won't feel out of place wearing fancy clothes in this dining room.
#2. Stafford’s Wheelhouse Lounge is one of the area’s favorite bar hot spots. They have a terrific selection of both domestic and imported beers as well as a superb wine list. The fireplace makes it a great place whether you have just finished a round of golf or have been downhill skiing for the day. You can either choose from a more casual menu or from the Pointer Room menu which is more expensive. It has live entertainment in the evening but call 231-526-6201 to see who is playing.
You can also casually dine outside on the beautiful lawn to actually be on the water's edge of the marina. Perfect on a beautiful Michigan summer or fall day!
Little Traverse Bay Golf Club and Restaurant Is Heavenly
Fine Dining Northern Michigan Style!!
High above the bay as you are heading out of Harbor Springs and heading towards Petoskey the Little Traverse Bay Golf Club and Restaurant is hidden from most eyes high above the bay. This wonderful public golf club provides superior bay views while you are golfing or fine dining Northern Michigan style in a peaceful and "far from the crowds" setting.
What's nice is that they don't have large patio table umbrellas on the outdoor terrace in order for the view to be seen inside or out! This is a favorite among local residents and is kept a secret by them. Make sure you call (231) 526-7800 for reservations. It's open for lunch and dinner 7 days a week in the summer and fall beginning in the middle of May.
