Horses! Horses!

Giddy-up!
Well, I've been going to the Island for many years now, enjoying family on the East Bluff and their friends who come and go for visits. There are a lot of terrific places to go but "getting there" is probably a favorite of mine....
Like calling a taxi and waiting for it, however, sometimes it comes early and you hear the approaching clip clop when you aren't yet ready, and "there it is" at the gate waiting for you !!! There's nothing like hurrying to climb up those running board steps and setting yourself down. If there were some handles, (hint, hint) to help pull yourself up, the strain would be less. Some of us are a bit "fluffy" you know. All to say, the horse taxi is very quaint and much better than walking. Talking with the driver, learning his/her name, where they are from and just what brought them to work on the Island is a real treat. I like to know the names of the horses, how long they work, if they are always a team or if they team up with others, and any of their interesting history.
These horses can also be entertaining........ well, you know they do have to relieve themselves along the way... and sometimes the "fragrance" is quite prominent!! They are beautiful animals and I admire their strength and ability to haul people, carriages, and drays chucked full of goods, baggage or equipment for the Island.
Yes, love those big, burley, beautiful horses, they always get me where I'm going and my "hat's off to them"...............
