The Inn at Stonecliffe

Romantic With A Serene Location

The Inn at Stonecliffe is the perfect romantic vacation spot if privacy, solitude and elegance are on your priority list for your Mackinac Island vacation.

The home was built for a self-made millionaire whose family left Ireland during the potato famine in 1841. It was completed in 1904 and was one of the largest private residences on Mackinac Island. The main home is known as The Cudahy Manor named after its first owners. It has had several owners in its proud history and all of them preserved its fine architectural style with traditional elegance in every room.

While staying, imagine what it was like living on magical Mackinac Island in a secluded opulent home far from the hustle and bustle of town in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. The rooms are decorated with period furniture. There are wonderful large windows overlooking the beautiful front and back yards in every room.

This is truly a quiet, romantic and peaceful place to stay especially if endless Mackinac Island tourists looking for fudge, tee-shirts and typical souvenirs on Main Street is not what you are looking for on your vacation.

The stained glass windows throughout the Inn are authentic and absolutely gorgeous.

Stonecliffe Mackinac Island

Arrival at The Inn at Stonecliffe

Arriving on a horse-drawn carriage is a real treat, for during the thirty-minute ride you are slowly leaving the hustle and bustle of town. As your carriage moves slowly up the hill you pass the beautiful, well-known Grand Hotel; you stop several times to let the horses have a break from their heavy load; you get to see private homes tucked into the woods; your driver will chat about the Island activities; and, you will watch bicyclists or people walking down the road to their unknown destinations.

Finally, the carriage turns the corner and through the trees you see The Inn at Stonecliffe.

You will want to eventually rent bikes for your daily transportation in order to not have to wait for a horse-drawn taxi every time you want to do some sight-seeing, shopping or other activities. The concierges are very helpful since they know you are far from town.

The Rooms Are Large

All the rooms have views but ask for a room with a view of the Mackinac Bridge. You will be pleasantly surprised by the large bathrooms. Please remember this is not a brand new hotel but rather an old Inn full of charm and quiet ambiance. There is no air conditioning.

The Inn at Stonecliffe serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. It’s quite expensive for a family but wonderful. You can walk to the Woods restaurant but that’s also expensive.

Staying here is a wonderful experience for you will have time to just be together during a romantic get-away with its spectacular views and beautiful gardens and woods surrounding you.

It's also a nice place for a family to vacation.

Insider Tip: The Inn at Stonecliffe’s separate Summer House has wonderful rooms that are fantastic for families. Summer House has a pool and the rooms are more typical of a standard hotel or condo rental with small refrigerators in the rooms. All guests can use the pool when staying at The Inn.
