Little Stone Church

Little Stone Church Mackinac Island Michigan

Little Stone Church is officially titled Union Congregational.

Its affectionate nickname is descriptive as the church was constructed using fieldstones collected on the Island. Only the granite used in construction was brought to the Island from elsewhere.

The church is over 100 years old and is a registered Michigan Historic Site. It is open yearly from mid-May to mid-October. Worship services are held weekly on Sundays at 10:30 a.m. followed by coffee fellowship in the church yard. All are welcome!

Several of the exquisite stained glass windows picture various historic events on Mackinac Island. The chancel window is called the Kaleidoscope Window and beautifully illuminates the altar area.

The church is now registered in the Michigan Stained Glass Census.

Reverend Dr. Vincent Carroll has been serving as minister at the church since 2004. He is a retired career Navy Chaplin.

Insider Tip: Be sure to attend a service if your Island visit encompasses a Sunday. The services are lovely and the music is consistently excellent. Additionally, it is always interesting to visit with the friendly congregation during the fellowship time after the service.
