Mackinac Island Races 2014 that are held on the Island include three terrific running events. One event is a 10k run or walk, one is an eight mile run or walk and the other has both a half marathon or a 5.7 mile run and walk associated with it.
All three running and walking events on the Island are for the avid athlete or for the person wanting to try one for the first time. Each has a different route so a participant can enjoy different spectacular scenery of this small Island where time has stood still. If you aren’t a runner register as a walker and invite a friend to join you.
On the average there are between 1500 to 2000 runners or walkers participating in each road race. Each run is growing in popularity due to the wonderful Mackinac Island location and weather so be sure to plan in advance.
Many people enjoy making these events a fun Mackinac Island family vacation too. All three races have Kids Runs associated with them. The children receive awards for participating.
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to run across the Mackinac Bridge? Here are the three fantastic events to make your dream a reality!
Staying in Mackinaw City or St. Ignace is a more economical way to participate since each town has national chain hotels with on-going specials; and, there are Mom and Pop motels which are budget minded due to their size and amenities.
If you opt to stay off the Island you can take one of the three Mackinac Island ferries early in the morning. Just plan ahead so you don’t miss the start!
INSIDER TIP: If you plan to come over by a ferry on the morning of a race, it is recommended you take an 8 a.m. boat for the events beginning at 9:30 and a 10 a.m. boat for the 11:30 event. All three events start quite a ways from the boat docks so plan on at least a one mile walk. What a great way to warm up!
