Mackinaw Mill Creek Discovery Park is just one of the terrific Mackinaw City attractions you can enjoy while on your Mackinac Island vacation. It's more than an interesting historical site because it is a 625 acre State Park that offers you and your children the chance to commune with nature and enjoy some great adventure too.

It's just a few miles east of Mackinaw City on U.S. 23 towards Cheboygan, Michigan. Originally built in the late 1700s Historic Mill Creek Discovery Park is where history and Nature comes alive. It is thought to be one of the oldest industrial sites in the Midwest. It housed a water powered sawmill, a blacksmith's shop, grist mill, orchard, a warehouse and several homes.

The old sawmill has been reconstructed and people in period costumes makes life at the sawmill really come alive with actual demonstrations of how lumber was cut using water power.

After visiting the mill you can take a hike on one of the many nature trails. You will be walking through the same woods that the Native Americans and Early Michigan settlers tramped through in their search for berries, wild fruit and game.

If your family enjoys camping look at staying near Mackinaw Mill Creek Discovery Park campsites which is close to the State Park and Mackinaw City.

Don't worrry About The Screams!

As you wander through the forest you may hear a few screams. But, don't be afraid it isn't a bobcat getting ready to attack. It's people who are having the time of their lives at Mackinaw Mill Creek Discovery Park adventure tour!

The adventure tour offers you the chance to experience the

  • Nature Trail Climbing Wall,
  • the Walk across the Forest Canopy Bridge way above the tree tops, and
  • experience the heart stopping thrill of flight on the Zip Line!

Insider Tip: To thoroughly enjoy all the great attractions in Mackinaw City most people will stay in one of the many fine Mackinaw hotels. Don't forget to take a trip over to see Fort Mackinac on beautiful and magical Mackinac Island during your Mackinac Island vacation.
