Metivier Inn on Mackinac Island

A Classic Bed and Breakfast

Metivier Inn is a beautiful and classy bed and breakfast that began as a private residence in 1877. It's perched on a small hill overlooking Market Street and is only one block from the hustle and bustle of Main Street. It's an easy walk from all the ferry docks and your luggage can be brought to Metivier Inn by a horse drawn taxi if you prefer.

The first thing you will notice is the beautiful flowers all across the front lawn. Each summer the garden has a new color scheme. It is a pure joy to see it flourish from the beginning spring bulbs to the rich deep colors in the fall. As you walk up the steps the warmth and inviting charm of this wonderful home will embrace you.

The décor is bright, clean and has a cheerful and welcoming feeling. There are two favorite spots to sit: either on the large front porch or in front of the wood burning fireplace in the cozy parlor.

Relax and Get to Know Other Guests

Due to the total charm and quiet elegance people come back to this glorious bed and breakfast year after year. So, don’t be surprised if there is “no room at the Inn” when you call for reservations.

There are only 22 guest rooms and all are equipped with private baths. Please understand that this 132 year old bed and breakfast does not have large showers. If you require a large shower be sure to ask for one of the rooms that can accommodate your wishes. There are only two rooms that have king size beds. The rest are queen and full size beds. There is one room with two queen beds.

Breakfast at the Metivier Inn

Served in the Lovely Dining Area
or On the Front Porch

The breakfasts are absolutely scrumptious! You can sit on the front porch or in the cozy dining area while feasting on homemade granola, yogurt, and a different hot egg dish each day, plus fruit and yummy pastries! And, if you are a coffee aficionada there fresh steaming hot brew rivals Starbucks in our opinion.

The enchanting front porch is the second best on the Island with the Grand Hotel's being number one! Sit and relax throughout the day either reading a favorite book or watching the carriages go clip-clopping slowly by. Tea is served each afternoon with fresh homemade cookies (or brownies!). It's simply the perfect way to begin winding down after a busy day.

If you are celebrating an anniversary, honeymoon or birthday, surprise your loved one with a gift certificate from the Metivier Inn. Many ideas for making beautiful and wonderful memories will be supplied by inn-keepers, David and Blanca. Plus, the Island itself is truly a gift to experience.

The Metivier Inn has been written up as a first class bed and breakfast by Conde Nast, New York Times, Midwest Living, The Chicago Tribune and Country Inns.

Insider Tip: If you want a special treat after your busy days of walking, hiking, biking, golf and, of course, shopping, reserve the Jacuzzi Room Suite! Its quaint porch overlooks the Grand Hotel's Jewel golf course and provides privacy while you are reading or napping. The jacuzzi is wonderful, too!
