July 4 Star Spangled Fourth of July events at Fort Mackinac, watching a Vintage Base Ball Games, being at the finish line of two world class sailing events, and then enjoying a Horse Festival featuring the grand and majestic Mackinac Island horses what else can you include during a fantastic Mackinac Island vacation? Oh, wait, what about a magnificent Mackinac Island Contemporary Art Exhibition Open House and watching fireworks from one of the Ferries on the evening of July 4th plus a few other wonderful events going on all around the Island. July 4 - Star Spangled Fourth of July from 2 - 7 p.m.
is decked out in Red, White and Blue banners, flags and buntings to celebrate July 4th. Walk into the fort and walk back into the world of an 1880's Independence Day. This event begins at 2 p.m. and ends at 7 p.m. There are 38-gun salutes honoring the states of the period, performances of patriotic music, and fun Victorian children's games. Everyone can join the party and participate in all the activities. There is no additional charge for this wonderful event above standard Fort Mackinac admission rates. It's not to be missed especially if you have children!
July 4th - "All American Picnic" begins at 6:30 p.m.
Checkered red and white tablecloths are spread across the grass of Fort Mackinac's parade grounds. This is such a spectacular and colorful "patchwork quilt" welcoming everyone to enjoy a good old fashioned picnic. The food is from the Grand Hotel with BBQ baby back ribs, grilled chicken breasts, hamburgers, hot dogs, turkey burgers, corn on the cob, and a slew of salads, fixings and desserts. Buy your Picnic Tickets by clicking the above banner. Children under 4 are free. Oh, after enjoying the food let the kids play and stay for the fireworks!
July 7 - Yell "Huzzah!" for Vintage Base Ball at 3 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
Love baseball? Then you will love experiencing the origin of the American game of baseball while watching Fort Mackinac's Never Sweats go up against the Mackinaw City Boys on the large parade ground behind Fort Mackinac on Mackinac Island. This is one of the most unique and fun Northern Michigan Events in July with lots of surprises when playing rules dating back to the 1840s. Get ready for some great cheers, apologies, and wishing some of the rules were still in play! This is free for all Fort Mackinac guests and to Mackinac Associates members. The games are played on July 7th at 7 pm and on July 23 at 7 p.m. These are real games - if you have a son or daughter who loves baseball this is great family event to see.

Round Island Lighthouse Annual Tour
If you have always wondered what the Round Island Lighthouse looks like up close and have also wondered what it would be like to walk up to the top of its tower...then you will enjoy this event immensely. It only happens once a year, so, don't miss it.

The Island Bookstore "U.P. Book Signing Tour 2011"
The Island Book Store is such a treasure for all who love to read. If you forget to pack a good book during your Mackinac Island vacation then head down to this cozy and friendly shop to find just what you're looking for! The staff is "well-read" themselves so they can help you find the perfect book or two, or three, or four! July 20 - 24 - Mackinac Island's Festival of the Horse
Mackinac Island is where the Horse is King and this wonderful event celebrates all the horses on the Island. There are tours of stables, a breed show and symposium and, of course, a Horse Parade! July 24 - Contemporary Art Exhibition Open House & Award Ceremony 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.
All our welcome to the Mackinac Island Contemporary Art Exhibition Open House and Award Ceremony at The Richard and Jane Manoogian Mackinac Art Museum located on Marquette Park across the street from the Mackinac Island Harbor. Enjoy this beautiful exhibition of artists from across the U.S. while enjoying light refreshments. This is a free event. If you haven't visited this state of the art museum you will be in for a big surprise by the other wonderful exhibits displayed in the museum especially the Native American display of artifacts from long ago.
Other Northern Michigan events in July on Mackinac Island
If you love sailing then there are two
World Class Sailing northern Michigan events in July
that end on Mackinac Island. The first event is the
historic Chicago to Mackinac Race
which is the world's longest freshwater sailing event in the world. The sailors leave Chicago on July 16 and arrive on the Island by late Sunday evening or early Monday morning.
The second sailing event is the
Bay View to Mackinac Race
that follows Lake Huron from Port Huron, Michigan near Detroit all the way to Mackinac Island.
