Pet friendly vacations in Michigan can start on Mackinac Island. It is a great place to bring your dog for a wonderful outdoor adventure. There are miles of Island trails, so you and Fido can spend endless hours exploring in the State Park. Keep your eyes open for a variety of beautiful Michigan wildflowers.

It is important to keep your dog on a leash and with you at all times! Also, remember to bring a supply of pick-up bags with you; there are plenty of waste cans to accept them when they’re full!

Good News!

The ferry companies will allow your special 4-legged friend to travel with you to the Island, free of charge. And, if you decide to take a carriage tour, your pet can ride free with if you can hold him on your lap. If not, you will be charged the price of a child's ticket for the doggie seat! But at least he can take the tour!

Many Mackinac Island restaurants will allow your pet to stay with you during your meal, especially those that serve outside, such as The Cannonball, Mary’s Bistro and Bistro on the Greens. There are others too, just inquire at the entrance.

If you visit during The Lilac Festival, be sure to attend the annual Mackinac Island Dog and Pony Show at Windermere Point.
It features D.E. Wallens Wild West Show and is great fun for young and old alike.

There is a veterinarian on Mackinac Island so don’t worry about being without special care should your pet need it.
