The Wilderness State Park is only 11 miles west of Mackinaw City.

The trails our outstanding if you like remote areas to explore. There are over 20 miles of cross country trails in this 10,000 acre wilderness.

And there are over 26 miles of beautiful Lake Michigan shoreline as well to ski on.

Snowmobiling is allowed too!



So pack up your gear and get ready to feel as though you are in Big Sky Country.

Be sure to bring a compass since this State Park might be close to Mackinaw City but it's strictly in the wilderness especially in the winter months. You can get lost if you venture off the trails or if you get caught in a winter-time squall off Lake Michigan!

You can go camping in a tent which is quite fun in northern Michigan in the winter.

Or reserve one of the rustic cabins which are truly a unique northern Michigan camping experience. There is plenty of cut wood at each cabin. And the truly wonderful location of these cabins is they are on the Lake Michigan shoreline.

Before heading out to the you can stock on up on food and supplies in Petoskey where there are some super grocery stores. Or visit Harbor Springs before heading up north on the Tunnel of Trees beautiful road that takes you right to the Wilderness State Park. 

Insider Tip: Hunting is allowed on Wilderness State Park in designated safe zones so be aware and wear bright neon orange clothing during hunting season!
